Complex Developmental & Behavioral Assessments
Specialized public assessment service for children with complex developmental needs including autism and FASD across Vancouver Island.
VICAN is part of Island Health, offering diagnostic & assessment services for children with complex developmental & behavioral needs, including Autism Spectrum Disorders for all children up to age six (and older in some cases), plus Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder, behavioral & developmental difficulties.
The program operates out of the Queen Alexandra Centre in Victoria, with outreach via Nanaimo Child Development Centre in some regions. Referrals are required, and assessments are done by provincially trained specialists (often psychologists and speech-language pathologists).
